The drop-off and pick-up service for the next appointment in the city

In rural areas, the density of doctors, hairdressers, lawyers, etc. is significantly lower than in the city. People who live outside the city and do not own a car have to plan their appointments depending on the mobility options currently available. This takes into account, for example, the travel times of bus lines or the availability of a driver in the family circle. This leads to restrictions in scheduling and, in frequent cases, to postponement of appointments or an expensive cab ride. In some towns, there are also so-called "rideshare benches" at important town entrances and exits, from which residents without their own vehicles can be given a ride into town. Here, too, a major problem in implementation arises from the lack of plannability. In addition, there is a lack of certainty that another driver from the city will also commute back to one's own village.

For people who can drive their own car into town, finding a parking space is a challenge. As close as possible to the destination and without driving around frequently are the goals here. Due to the growing volume of traffic, the search is often nerve-wracking. Once a parking space is found, parking fees and limited parking time add to the worries. The vehicle can be ordered on demand for set dates. For example, the bus can be ordered up to two days in advance. This is quite sufficient for most appointments. Scheduling can be done more easily than with a real-time on demand service because of the lead time. If a reservation is made, the ride is shown to other participants and the route is automatically optimized. The app displays suggestions based on other rides. If the planned ride fits into an existing ride, a lower fare is offered.

This minimizes waiting times and improves utilization. There is also the option to choose a different time for a more expensive fare. Optionally, the vehicle that is used for other use cases and already has a trip planned into the city can be used for the on demand service. For this, the bus must have some additional seats. When combining a use case with the on demand service, the booking can also be made at shorter notice. As a further solution, an analogous variant is envisaged. The vehicle can be booked on demand at designated stations, e.g., bus stops or rideshare banks. This service can be offered especially outside the regular public transport hours. A system is available at the stations that signals the need for a ride. This can be, for example, a push of a button and a camera to ensure that a person has a need.
